Publishing, News and Entertainment

  • The media industry has exerted enormous influence on society for many years. Even before the invention of radios, movies, and television printed information from news papers, magazines, and books were a powerful force in shaping how people think and behave. Broadcast media are even more powerful than printed publications because they can reach more people and reach them faster. The Internet has added a new dimension to media industry.

  • Webzines : Webzines are also called e-magazines, e-zines, or just 'zines. A Webzine is a magazine that is published on the web for a wide range of readers. Some Webzines are online versions of traditional print magazines, but others are available only online. Some have a large general readership, but others are read almost exclusively by people who share a profession , a hobby or some other interest.

  • Blogs: Blogs are short for Web-logs, have quickly swept through the Internet as an easy way to publish your journal. Be aware, anyone can read your entries and, at times comment on entries. The author of a blog is called blogger.

African Proverb #8

An intelligent enemy is better than a stupid friend

I think this quote means that it is better to have an enemy that is smart than a friend that is dumb because if you have an smart enemy, you can learn by your mistakes from their actions. As to when you have a stupid friend, if they try to trap you in any way , you are already ahead of the game. This also goes to another quote that says " Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer". Which in this case is very true.

Holiday Card Project

What is the Holiday Card Project ?

The Purpose of the Holiday Card Project is to create holiday cards for people who are hospitalized during the holiday season. The idea behind the project is to simply try to bring a little cheer to those who are undergoing hospital stay.

Exactly who receives the cards ?

The cards will be distributed to both U.S. and international hospitals. The cards will be delivered to a person by a representative . The patients who receive the cards age in range of children to seniors and have illness or injuries that vary from mild to terminal.

What should I write in a card ?

Be as creative as you would like. Just remember, the degree of illness of patients will vary. So,it is important to be cheerful. Some, suggested greetings include"Hope your feeling better", "Thinking of you", or "have a nice day". Try to stay away from "Get well soon" as it might not be appropriate for all patients. Remember to include a message of " Happy Holidays".

Will the patients know who sent the cards ?

The only way a patient will know who the card is from is if you sign your name on the card. If you would like to send your card anonymously you may.

Can I send more than one card ?

Absolutely ! However, remember that quality is better than quantity. Sending one quality card that you put time and effort into is better than sending two cards that were thrown together.

Is there a specific size or medium for the card?

There is no specific size for the cards. Use your best judgement. You can design and decorate cards by drawing, coloring or painting. You can use glitter , construction paper, card board, markers, crayons , colored pencils , ribbon, etc, to make your card special. You can also design your card using photoshop. In Photoshop, please use 4*6 or 5*7 for your dimensions.

African Proverb #7

Knowledge is like a garden, if it is not cultivated, it cannot be harvested

I think this quote means that a persons mind can easily lose its knowledge of things. So, in order to keep that memory, you have to do things like studying  or testing. I also believe that knowledge is like a garden. It needs a lot of care. You take care of it just like anything else you would take care of.

For an example, If I were a complete genius. And I new about everything in the world. The only way to store all of that knowledge  is to keep up on my facts and research. Or else it will be lost somewhere in my head where I can't find it. Then I'd be an incomplete genius.

African Proverb #6

A person who knows proverbs can reconcile differences

I think this proverb means that if  you can understand the meanings of proverbs ,then you can help resolve conflicts. If you can solve a problem, there is a lot more that you could probably solve. It never hurts to help I like to say. I can relate because I like to reconcile also.

For an example, If your Friend had a animal that died. You did not know what to do, you could always help them out with a proverb. I believe that they would feel a lot better. So would you. Because you just reconciled a persons differences.

African Proverb #5

The fool speaks ,the wise person listens

I believe this proverb is saying that a person that isn't wise has the ability to say what they have to say ,but does not want to hear what another has to say. A wise person also speaks ,but they also listen to another that speaks. Listening is always important to do. Just speaking can get a person in a mess, because they did not listen. So, trouble comes along their way.

For an example, if there was a science fair coming up. You were assigned with a group. If you just gave out ideas and never let the other people get a chance to give ideas, you are the fool that speaks. If you let other people get a chance you are the person that listens. That is why listening is important

African Proverb #4

"It is better to be loved than feared"

I believe that this quote means that if someone is scared of you, you don't get a good use out of that. That also means that one day, if you walk outside one person or every body may start running away. Which means that you probably can't last at least two seconds out there without somebody being afraid of you. Being feared means you can't really talk to that person or people, because they don't want to talk to you.

Being loved is best because you have people who love to communicate with you. Also you are probably admired. This is a great sign of friendship and happiness. It is so better being loved than scared. It's the best.

Extra Cash

If you had an extra $100,000 to give away and you cannot spend it on yourself. What would you do with the money?

If I had an extra 100,000 dollars to give away and I couldn't spend it on myself, I would split the money so I could give it to more than one person. I would give part of the money to my friends. Then 2/4  goes to a charity or program that is focused on the economy. Then I would give the rest to a homeless personor a couple homeless people.

I have a couple great reasons to give this money away. I would give some of the money to my fiends because they are nice to me and I feel that I owe them. I would also give the money to a facility that concentrates on the economy and going green because the barely have a lot of supporters and I am trying to be like them also. Even, homeless people need a lot of help. If it were me I too would like a little help. So I would treat them the way I would want to be treated the same.

African Proverb 3

                                                    " A brother/Sister is like a shoulder"

african proverb 2

" Wood may remain 10 years in water but it will never become a crocodile"

I think this proverb means that you can't change who you are. For example, if you got plastic surgery you would still be the same person. Although you may look different you still are the same. There is nothing that can really change you.

I believe that nobody should be disappointed with themselves. A person should be happy with what or who they are. Otherwise there is no point in existing. It is the way God made you.

African Proverb

"Knowledge is better than Riches"

Clearly this proverb states that your education is worth much more than money or expense. Of course, this is true. Surprisingly it can be used at your emotional times in life. For an example, if your succeeding goal is crushed.

08-09 School Year

I believe my goal for this year is to get good grades. I think I did accomplish getting a couple good grades so far. It seems that I accomplished it by doing what the teachers say.

I think that the benefits of attending New Media is getting rewards or just learning a lot more than what you did before. Although it does still include hard work. Clearly, it isn't the easiest. Therefore you earn it.
